       Cultivate Comparisons with This
       Nonfiction and Fiction Text Resource

Students will read excerpts from a biography of a World War II
POW and excerpts from a fiction story told through the eyes
of a 15-year-old forced from her Lithuanian home in 1941.
Comparisons will be made through multiple exercises,
analyzing the various literary devices used to enhance the
reader’s experience with the text. Students study authors’
craft to see how similar themes are treated in both nonfiction
and fiction to capture the reader’s attention.
Five genres explored through paired excerpts:

       • Memoir
       • Historical documents
